Oxygen will react with conventional lubrication technologies, leading to potential for explosion, fire and deterioration of the lubricant and component failure. Oxygen accelerates the decomposition of hydrocarbon lubricants. They rapidly form tars and varnish, causing bearings to fail. Oxygen will react with conventional additives, leading to degradation, reduced lubricant life, and a need for more frequent lubrication.

A contaminated beverage CO2 cylinder is all too common, yet avoidable with proper equipment and procedures. . Contamination is typically caused when beverage syrup backflows through the cylinder valve and then back into the CO2 cylinder. A contaminated cylinder can be a costly scenario, from both financial(cost of cleaning a contaminated cylinder) and health (safe for human consumption) perspectives Here are two methods recommended by the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) for helping to control contamination and backflow. These specific recommendations can be found on CGA G-6.3 & CGA G-6.8.
