An Easier Way to Repair Cryogenic Copper Tubing

Written by Craig Pagano | May 29, 2024 2:20:26 PM

Copper tubing is a popular material in cryogenics because of its ductile nature at low temperatures. But copper is not immune to pinholes and cracking due to daily wear-and-tear and weaknesses introduced by contaminants and general exposure to the elements.

Unfortunately, when copper tubing cracks or leaks, most independent distributors must pull a cylinder out of service and either send it off for repair or call in a plumber to replace the copper line. Not only is this expensive in terms of labor and materials, it’s also costly in terms of cylinder downtime.

Flexible repair hoses: A simpler, more affordable approach

Ratermann’s flexible repair hoses offer a much more practical solution to an all-too-common problem. Available in preset lengths of 5.5, 8.5 and 11.5 inches, these flexible hoses feature swiveling ends so that they can be easily popped into place without overbending or crimping.

Strong and reliable for cryogenics

Flexible repair hoses are braided for strength and can handle pressures up to 2,000 PSI, four times copper tubing’s 500 PSI rating. All repair hoses are cleaned for oxygen service. Ratermann also has a selection of the necessary flare fittings in elbow and straight options, in a variety of common diameters to fit most applications.
